Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/6/20): White Sox 6, Cubs 3 – Lester Logs Strikeout Six-Pack in Loss
The Cubs welcomed their “rivals” from the South Side to Sloan Park on Friday in a game that featured Patrick Hughes on the radio coverage. The home team’s offense struggled for a second consecutive day and the White Sox were able to take home a victory.
Jon Lester took the mound and had his control locked in a big way, hitting his spots and notching six strikeouts in less than three innings. His only real blemish came when Luis Robert doubled against him in the 2nd to put the Sox up 1-0. José Abreu had the big blow with a two-run homer against Dan Winkler in the 4th inning. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Lost
Cubs hitters couldn’t generate much early in the game and the Sox were able to build a lead.
Key Moment
The first two White Sox batters of the game reached base, then Lester struck out Abreu, Yasmani Grandal, and Edwin Encarnacion to end the inning without damage.
Stats That Matter
- Lester gave up some baserunners, but looked good overall: 2.2 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 6 K, 2 BB.
- David Bote walked, had a run-scoring single, and made a terrific diving play at third base.
- Adbert Alzolay went two innings allowing a home run: 2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, and 1 BB.
Bottom Line
Lester has looked good his last two outings and was really dealing with his change up.
